Opening Ceremony of MIRRA Non-profit Company
Under the patronage and in presence of His Excellency, Mr. Denis Gauer, Ambassador of France to Jordan.
On the 26th of March, MIRRA Non-profit Company announced its opening in a launching ceremony at the Amman Cham Palace in Amman.
MIRRA (Methods for Irrigation and Agriculture) is a Jordanian non-profit organization created in September 2007. It aims to support the development of the agricultural sector in Jordan and in its neighboring countries (Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria) by being an operator on development projects and by performing consultative missions in the domains of agriculture and irrigation.
The ceremony commenced by the speech of His Excellency Mr. Denis Gauer, Ambassador of France to Jordan, who introduced MIRRA and reminded all present invitees of the historical background of the organization, meaning its link with the French Embassy who supported its establishment financially and technically. MIRRA is actually the spin-off organization of the well-known French Regional Mission for Water and Agriculture (MREA), a Cooperation Mission of the French Embassy, active in Jordan and in the region from 1992 to end of 2007.
A presentation of MIRRA’s structure, mission and fields of expertise was then given to all invitees by Dr. Samer Talozi, the Chairman of MIRRA, and its executive team including Eng. Laith Al-Waked, the General Executive Manager, Eng. Haidar Malhas, Head of the Irrigation Department, and finally Eng. Nour Habjoka, Head of the Agriculture Department. These presentations provided the invitees with a clear understanding of what MIRRA can provide in terms of services to the agricultural sector and how it can soon become a key actor for the various stakeholders including donors, governmental agencies, the private sector and the civil society.
By attending this ceremony, these organizations and institutes demonstrated once again their interest and support for the creation and the presence of an organization such as MIRRA that deals with agriculture and environment in a comprehensive and grass-root approach using tools and methods well adapted to the local context in Jordan and in the region. This interest had in fact already been clearly demonstrated during the workshop organized in May 2007 by the French Embassy where the historical institutional and technical partners of the MREA had committed to support the creation of this unique organization.
